Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ballistics Expert to join our advanced research and development team in Santa Rosa, CA. This pivotal role involves comprehensive analysis, testing, and evaluation of ballistics phenomena, materials, and systems. The ideal candidate will provide expert insights, conduct forensic examinations, and contribute to the design and improvement of protective technologies and weaponry. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed ballistics analysis, including trajectory, impact, and material penetration studies.
  • Perform forensic examination of ballistic evidence, including firearms, projectiles, and casings.
  • Design and execute ballistic tests in accordance with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Analyze test data, interpret results, and prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations.
  • Provide expert consultation and testimony on ballistics-related matters as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering, materials science, and defense teams to integrate ballistics expertise into product development.
  • Maintain and calibrate specialized ballistics testing equipment and laboratory facilities.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in ballistics science, materials, and testing methodologies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and regulatory guidelines in all experimental procedures.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in ballistics, forensic science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of internal, external, and terminal ballistics principles.
  • Proficiency in forensic ballistics examination techniques and equipment.
  • Experience with ballistic testing ranges, high-speed photography, and data acquisition systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets and draw scientifically sound conclusions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and presentations.
  • Proficiency with relevant software for data analysis and simulation (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS, specialized ballistics software).
  • Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Professional certification in forensic ballistics or firearms examination.
  • Experience with defense or aerospace industry standards and specifications.
  • Familiarity with advanced material science related to armor and impact resistance.
  • Prior experience working with government contracts or classified projects.
