Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Façade Engineer to join our growing team in Kelowna, British Columbia. This is a unique opportunity for a skilled professional to contribute to diverse and impactful building projects across Canada. The Façade Engineer will be responsible for the structural design, analysis, and performance evaluation of building envelopes, ensuring aesthetic appeal, structural integrity, and energy efficiency. You will collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and contractors from concept to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and engineering of building façade systems, including curtain walls, window walls, skylights, cladding, and other exterior elements.
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations for façade systems, considering various loads (wind, seismic, thermal, gravity) and material properties.
- Develop detailed technical specifications, drawings, and reports for façade projects.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance during all project phases, from conceptual design through construction administration.
- Conduct peer reviews of façade designs and participate in value engineering exercises.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and sustainability consultants.
- Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and mock-ups to ensure compliance with design intent and performance specifications.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, new materials, and relevant building codes and standards.
- Conduct site visits and inspections to monitor construction progress and resolve field issues related to façade installation.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the façade engineering team.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in façade engineering or building envelope design.
- Proven experience with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, Strand7).
- Strong knowledge of building physics, thermal performance, and moisture management related to building envelopes.
- Familiarity with relevant Canadian building codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; Revit experience is a strong asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related engineering field.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligibility for registration in British Columbia.
- Experience with sustainable façade design principles and energy modeling.
- Working knowledge of glass and glazing manufacturing processes.
- Experience with advanced computational design tools (e.g., Grasshopper, Rhino).
- Previous experience on international projects.
