Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist to join our dynamic team in Stratford, PEI. This full-time position is open to candidates requiring international sponsorship, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to critical environmental projects throughout Prince Edward Island and the broader Atlantic region. The successful candidate will be involved in various field and office-based tasks, including wildlife surveys, habitat assessments, data analysis, and report preparation. You will work on diverse projects ranging from infrastructure development impact assessments to species at risk recovery plans. This role requires a strong understanding of ecological principles, excellent field skills, and a commitment to scientific integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct wildlife surveys (e.g., avian, amphibian, mammal, aquatic species) using various methodologies, including visual encounter surveys, acoustic monitoring, and trapping.
  • Perform habitat assessments, classification, and mapping utilizing GPS and GIS tools.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze ecological data, ensuring accuracy and adherence to scientific protocols.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and permit applications.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of species at risk recovery plans and mitigation strategies.
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory agencies, and Indigenous communities as required.
  • Contribute to project planning, proposal writing, and budgeting.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations during field operations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in wildlife biology or ecological consulting.
  • Demonstrated experience with field-based wildlife survey techniques and habitat assessments.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills for report preparation.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for field assignments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various environmental conditions.
  • Eligibility for international sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant ecological discipline.
  • Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Certification in electrofishing, swiftwater rescue, or other relevant field safety training.
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation in Canada, particularly specific to PEI and the Atlantic region.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
