Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and analytical Meteorologist / Climate Scientist to join our dynamic team in Hamilton, Ontario. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to vital research, monitoring, and analysis related to Canada’s climate and weather patterns. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in understanding and predicting environmental changes, providing essential data for policy-making and public safety. A comprehensive relocation package is available for eligible candidates moving to the Hamilton area.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting atmospheric and climate model simulations and analyses.
- Interpreting meteorological data from various sources (satellites, radar, surface stations).
- Developing and refining climate change scenarios and projections.
- Preparing scientific reports, presentations, and publications for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on research projects related to climate impacts and adaptation.
- Providing expert advice on meteorological and climate-related issues to government officials and the public.
- Maintaining and improving data quality control procedures.
Required Skills
- Master's or Ph.D. in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3 years of post-academic experience in meteorological or climate research/analysis.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and data visualization tools (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB).
- Experience with climate models and large datasets.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific climate modeling frameworks (e.g., CanESM, WRF).
- Knowledge of geographical information systems (GIS).
- Bilingualism (English and French).
- Demonstrated experience in scientific publication.
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
