Job Description
Eurofins Scientific is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Forensic Scientist / Toxicologist to join our state-of-the-art laboratory in Rockville, Maryland. This critical role involves conducting complex analytical tests on biological samples and other evidence to detect and quantify drugs, poisons, and other chemical substances. The successful candidate will play a vital role in criminal investigations, public health assessments, and other legal proceedings by providing accurate and defensible scientific findings. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized toxicological analyses on biological specimens (blood, urine, tissue, hair, etc.) and other submitted evidence using a variety of analytical techniques.
- Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory instrumentation, including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, and immunoassays.
- Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods for the detection and quantification of emerging drugs and toxins.
- Interpret analytical data, prepare comprehensive laboratory reports, and provide expert testimony in court when required.
- Ensure strict adherence to quality assurance and quality control protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and relevant accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 17025, ABFT).
- Conduct peer review of data and reports generated by other scientists.
- Participate in internal and external proficiency testing programs.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all laboratory safety guidelines.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and scientific capabilities.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in Forensic Science, Toxicology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a forensic toxicology or analytical chemistry laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation such as GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and immunoassays.
- Strong understanding of forensic analytical principles, chain of custody procedures, and quality assurance practices.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret complex analytical data and prepare clear, concise scientific reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. or eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) or eligibility for certification.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Prior experience providing expert testimony in legal proceedings.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to forensic testing.
