Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Cattery Hand to join our team in Cairns. This role offers flexible casual shifts, perfect for someone looking for adaptable work hours. As a Cattery Hand, you will be responsible for the daily care and comfort of our feline guests, ensuring they receive the highest standard of attention during their stay with us. This is an easy-to-learn role where a love for animals and a willingness to learn are more important than prior experience. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize cattery enclosures daily, maintaining high hygiene standards.
- Provide fresh food and water to all feline guests according to their specific dietary needs.
- Monitor the health and well-being of cats, reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
- Administer medication as instructed by veterinary professionals (after training).
- Engage with cats, providing comfort, play, and socialization.
- Change litter trays regularly and ensure the cattery area is always tidy.
- Assist with laundry and general upkeep of the cattery facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, medication, and observations for each cat.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals, especially cats.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and learn new tasks quickly.
- Excellent attention to detail and observation skills.
- Capable of performing physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Australia.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in animal care (e.g., pet ownership, volunteering at a shelter) is a bonus but not essential.
- Basic understanding of feline behavior and welfare.
- First aid certification (animal or human).
