Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Sommelier Assistant / Wine Server to join our esteemed culinary and beverage team at The Admiralty Suites & Spa. In this role, you will work closely with our Head Sommelier to provide exceptional wine service to our discerning guests across our fine dining restaurants and private events. This is an incredible opportunity for someone with a foundational knowledge of wines and a strong desire to grow their expertise within a luxury hotel environment. You will assist in managing our extensive wine cellar, guide guests through our wine list, and ensure a seamless and unforgettable dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Sommelier in the daily operations of the wine program.
- Present wine lists, answer guest inquiries, and provide expert recommendations tailored to guest preferences and menu pairings.
- Serve wine and spirits with precision and adherence to established service standards.
- Maintain the organization, cleanliness, and inventory of the wine cellar and storage areas.
- Assist with receiving, stocking, and rotating wine inventory.
- Support wine tasting events, staff training, and promotional activities.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Handle guest feedback and resolve any wine-related issues promptly and professionally.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospitality or food and beverage role, preferably in an upscale setting.
- Basic knowledge of different wine regions, varietals, and food pairings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with a professional and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift/carry cases of wine.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of additional languages is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a wine server or sommelier assistant.
- Completed or enrolled in a recognized wine education program (e.g., WSET Level 1 or 2).
- Familiarity with inventory management systems for beverages.
- A genuine passion for wine and continuous learning.
