Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Sommelier Assistant / Wine Server to join our esteemed food and beverage team. This role is crucial in enhancing our guests’ dining experience by providing expert wine service and recommendations. You will support the Head Sommelier in managing our extensive wine cellar, assisting with inventory, and ensuring a seamless and sophisticated wine service across our various dining outlets. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual passionate about wine to grow their expertise in an upscale hotel environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Sommelier with daily wine service operations, including cellar management and inventory control.
- Provide exceptional wine service to guests, including presenting, opening, and pouring wines correctly.
- Offer knowledgeable recommendations to guests, understanding their preferences and pairing wines with menu items.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the wine cellar, storage areas, and service equipment.
- Assist with wine procurement, stock rotation, and wastage control.
- Participate in wine tastings and training sessions to expand product knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Handle guest inquiries and resolve any issues relating to wine service promptly and professionally.
- Collaborate with the bar and restaurant teams to ensure smooth service flow.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a food and beverage service role, preferably in an upscale restaurant or hotel.
- Basic knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and food pairings.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high service standards.
- Fluent in English.
- Ability to lift and carry wine boxes, and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- WSET Level 1 or equivalent certification.
- Previous experience specifically as a wine server or assistant sommelier.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems.
