Job Description
Crowley Maritime Corporation is seeking an experienced and dedicated Ship Master / Captain to command our commercial vessels. This critical role involves overseeing all aspects of vessel operations, ensuring the safety of the crew, cargo, and ship, and compliance with all international and national maritime regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for efficient navigation, cargo management, vessel maintenance oversight, and maintaining high operational standards. We offer visa sponsorship for highly qualified international candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Assume full command and responsibility for the vessel, crew, cargo, and overall operations.
- Ensure strict compliance with all international and national maritime laws, regulations, and company policies (ISM, ISPS, SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.).
- Plan and execute safe and efficient voyages, including navigation, weather monitoring, and route optimization.
- Oversee cargo operations, including loading, stowage, securing, and discharge, to prevent damage and ensure stability.
- Manage and lead the vessel's crew, fostering a culture of safety, discipline, and teamwork.
- Maintain the vessel's operational readiness, including maintenance schedules, inspections, and emergency preparedness.
- Act as the primary point of contact with shore-side management, port authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct regular drills and training for the crew to ensure proficiency in emergency response and operational procedures.
- Manage vessel budgets, supplies, and administrative tasks as required.
Required Skills
- Valid STCW Master Unlimited CoC (Certificate of Competency).
- Extensive experience as a Master on commercial vessels (e.g., container ships, tankers, bulk carriers, Ro-Ro vessels).
- Thorough knowledge of international and national maritime regulations.
- Proven leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and ship handling.
- Ability to manage multicultural crews effectively.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English.
- Medical fitness certificate compliant with international standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with vessels operating in specific trade lanes or regions relevant to Crowley’s operations.
- Additional certifications such as Dynamic Positioning (DP) Operator, if applicable to vessel type.
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies or related field.
- Experience with digital navigation systems and fleet management software.
