Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Piping Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is crucial for delivering innovative and efficient piping solutions for complex industrial and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of piping systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed piping layouts, P&IDs, and isometric drawings using advanced CAD software.
- Perform pipe stress analysis and support design calculations.
- Ensure designs comply with ASME, API, and other relevant industry codes and standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (process, civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation) to integrate piping designs into overall project deliverables.
- Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) and specifications for piping components and materials.
- Review vendor drawings and technical specifications for compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, hazard analyses (HAZOP), and constructability studies.
- Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design-related issues encountered during project execution.
- Mentor junior designers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the piping department.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software for piping design (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), E3D).
- Strong understanding of piping engineering principles, including pipe sizing, material selection, and support design.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8).
- Experience with pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE).
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, plot plans, and equipment data sheets.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Experience in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, or Power Generation industries.
- Familiarity with laser scan data and point cloud integration into design workflows.
- Experience with modular design and pre-fabrication strategies.
