Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Operating Room / Theatre Nurse to join our surgical team in Blackwood, Wales. Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in the operating room, ensuring optimal patient outcomes.
- Prepare the operating theatre and equipment for surgical procedures, maintaining sterile conditions.
- Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during operations, acting as a scrub nurse or circulating nurse as required.
- Monitor patients' physiological signs and comfort during surgery and immediately post-operatively.
- Administer medications safely and accurately according to hospital policies and prescriptions.
- Maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records and documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary surgical team to ensure seamless patient flow and care.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and relevant clinical guidelines, including infection control.
- Participate in continuing professional development and mandatory training programs.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (NMC registration in the UK, or eligibility for registration)
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an operating theatre setting (scrub, circulating, or anaesthetic experience)
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and patient safety protocols
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to continuous professional development and high standards of care
Preferred Qualifications
- ENB 176/183 or equivalent specialist theatre qualification
- Experience across a range of surgical specialties (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification
- Experience mentoring junior staff or students
