Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Industrial Automation Engineer to join our innovative team in Victoria, BC. This role is crucial for designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining cutting-edge automation systems that enhance operational efficiency and productivity across various industrial sectors. The successful candidate will play a vital role in our projects, from initial concept to commissioning and support. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement industrial control systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks.
- Program and configure various automation platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Schneider Electric) to meet project specifications.
- Conduct system testing, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including P&IDs, electrical schematics, control narratives, and user manuals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, clients, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.
- Participate in site commissioning and startup activities for new automation systems.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram) with Rockwell Automation (Studio 5000) or Siemens (TIA Portal).
- Experience with HMI/SCADA development and configuration (e.g., FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition).
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
- Familiarity with control system architecture, instrumentation, and process control principles.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and functional specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility in Canada.
- Experience with distributed control systems (DCS).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP).
- Experience in specific industries such as manufacturing, oil & gas, pulp & paper, or water/wastewater.
