Job Description
Eaton Corporation is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Materials Engineer to join our innovative team in Naperville, Illinois. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct materials research, characterization, and failure analysis to support product development and improvement.
- Specify, evaluate, and approve materials for new and existing product designs, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to integrate material solutions effectively into product lifecycles.
- Develop and implement material testing protocols and procedures to ensure product quality and performance.
- Provide expert guidance on material selection, processing, and application to optimize product functionality and durability.
- Investigate root causes of material-related failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Stay current with advancements in material science and engineering, identifying opportunities for innovation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in materials engineering, preferably within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in material characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, DSC, mechanical testing).
- Strong understanding of material properties, processing, and degradation mechanisms.
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex material challenges.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. (Eaton will consider visa sponsorship for qualified international applicants).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science or a related discipline.
- Experience with polymers, composites, metals, or ceramics in electrical or power management applications.
- Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO) and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or other simulation tools for material behavior.
- Project management experience in an R&D or product development setting.
