Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Viticulturist / Vineyard Manager to oversee all aspects of our vineyard operations. This pivotal role involves managing the complete vineyard cycle from pruning to harvest, ensuring optimal vine health, grape quality, and yield. The successful candidate will lead a small team, implement best viticultural practices, and contribute significantly to our estate’s success and reputation. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute all vineyard activities throughout the year, including pruning, canopy management, pest and disease control, irrigation, and harvesting.
- Develop and implement annual vineyard plans, budgets, and operational schedules.
- Lead, train, and supervise vineyard staff, ensuring efficient and safe working practices.
- Monitor vine health and soil conditions, implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain detailed records of vineyard activities, treatments, yields, and weather data.
- Collaborate closely with the winery team to ensure grape quality meets winemaking specifications.
- Implement and uphold sustainable viticultural practices and environmental management systems.
- Oversee vineyard machinery maintenance and operation.
- Contribute to long-term vineyard development and expansion plans.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in vineyard management or a similar viticultural role.
- Proven knowledge of viticulture principles, vine physiology, and pest/disease management.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Proficiency in vineyard machinery operation and maintenance.
- Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Valid driving license.
- Fluency in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Viticulture, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Experience with cool-climate viticulture.
- Knowledge of organic or biodynamic viticultural practices.
- PA1/PA2/PA3 spraying certificates.
