Job Description
Sefton Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Public Cemetery Groundskeeper. In this essential outdoor role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the appearance, safety, and serene atmosphere of our public cemeteries. This position requires a respectful approach, physical aptitude, and a commitment to providing a tranquil environment for visitors. You will be responsible for a variety of grounds maintenance tasks, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and upholding the high standards of care expected in such sensitive locations. Full training will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic and a desire to serve the community with respect.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, strimming, weeding, and pruning.
- Maintain pathways, grave areas, and communal spaces to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
- Operate and maintain a range of grounds care equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with waste management and litter removal within the cemetery grounds.
- Undertake minor repairs and general upkeep of site facilities and memorials, as required.
- Ensure all work is carried out with sensitivity and respect for the bereaved and the sanctity of the cemetery.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and council policies.
- Interact with visitors in a courteous and helpful manner, providing directions or assistance as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a similar outdoor role.
- Full UK driving license.
- Horticultural knowledge or experience with groundskeeping machinery.
- First Aid certification.
