Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Piping Design Engineer to join our thriving team in Canterbury. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects ranging from complex industrial facilities to sustainable energy solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for the conceptual, FEED, and detailed design of piping systems, ensuring compliance with international standards and project specifications. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, and vendors to deliver high-quality, efficient, and safe designs. This position requires a strong understanding of piping engineering principles, software proficiency, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual, FEED, and detailed piping designs, including layouts, routing, and isometric drawings.
  • Perform pipe stress analysis and support design, ensuring structural integrity and operational reliability.
  • Prepare and review piping specifications, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations.
  • Collaborate with process, mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering disciplines to ensure integrated designs.
  • Conduct site surveys and field verifications to inform design decisions and resolve construction issues.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards (e.g., ASME B31 series), and client specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and safety studies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in piping design within the industrial, energy, or process sectors.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA PDMS/E3D, SmartPlant 3D).
  • Strong understanding of piping materials, valves, and components.
  • Knowledge of relevant international codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31 series).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or professional engineering registration (e.g., CEng).
  • Experience with pipe stress analysis software (e.g., CAESAR II, AutoPIPE).
  • Familiarity with UK regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Experience in diverse project types (e.g., oil & gas, renewables, nuclear).
  • Project lead or senior design experience.
