Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Scrub Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. As a Scrub Nurse, you will play a crucial role in assisting surgeons during operations, ensuring a sterile environment, and managing surgical instruments and equipment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work across various surgical specialities within a supportive and advanced clinical setting, contributing directly to positive patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating theatre for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are sterile and readily available.
- Assist surgeons during operations by anticipating needs and providing instruments, sponges, and other sterile items as required.
- Maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures, adhering strictly to aseptic techniques.
- Conduct accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles with the circulating nurse before, during, and after surgery.
- Monitor the patient's condition throughout the procedure and report any changes to the surgical team.
- Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and safely.
- Participate in post-operative cleaning and preparation of the theatre for the next procedure.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with anaesthetists, surgeons, ODPs, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (NMC registration required)
- Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in a surgical setting, preferably as a Scrub Nurse
- Demonstrable knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control principles
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure
- Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Commitment to continuous professional development
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialist qualification or course in Perioperative Care or Scrub Nursing
- Experience with a variety of surgical specialities (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology)
- Up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
