Job Description

Are you passionate about contributing to a cleaner, greener community? Blackpool Council is seeking hardworking and reliable individuals to join our Environmental Services team as a Street Sweeper. In this essential role, you will be responsible for the cleanliness and tidiness of Blackpool’s public spaces, ensuring a pleasant and hygienic environment for everyone. No prior experience is required for this position as full and comprehensive training will be provided to all successful candidates. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual sweeping and litter picking across designated routes, including streets, pavements, and public parks.
  • Operate pedestrian-controlled street sweeping equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Empty and clean public litter bins, ensuring proper waste disposal and recycling where applicable.
  • Identify and report instances of fly-tipping, graffiti, or other environmental concerns to supervisors.
  • Maintain cleanliness around street furniture, bus stops, and other public amenities.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Interact professionally and courteously with members of the public.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Contribute to maintaining the high standards of cleanliness expected by Blackpool Council.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual tasks and walk significant distances daily, in various weather conditions.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions effectively.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to maintaining a clean public environment.
  • Basic communication skills to interact with team members and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid UK driving license (Class B) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Previous experience in an outdoor or manual labour role.
  • Familiarity with the Blackpool area.
