Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Theatrical Lighting Design Intern to join our Stagecraft team. This is an exceptional opportunity for an aspiring lighting professional to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, professional theatre environment. You will work closely with our resident lighting designers, technicians, and production teams, learning the intricacies of stage lighting from concept to execution. This internship is designed to provide comprehensive training and practical skills development for individuals with a passion for theatrical lighting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior lighting designers with conceptual development and technical drawings for various productions.
- Learn to operate and program lighting consoles (e.g., ETC Eos, GrandMA).
- Support the rigging, focusing, and maintenance of lighting fixtures.
- Assist with pre-production planning, including preparing equipment lists and schematics.
- Shadow lighting technicians during rehearsals and live performances.
- Contribute to the safe and efficient setup and strike of lighting equipment.
- Attend production meetings and contribute to creative discussions.
Required Skills
- Strong passion for theatre and stage lighting design.
- Basic understanding of electrical principles (preferred, but not essential).
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree/diploma in technical theatre, lighting design, or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., Vectorworks Spotlight) or lighting visualization software (e.g., Capture) is a plus.
- Prior involvement in school, community, or amateur theatre productions.
