Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and physically fit individuals to join our team as Local Council Refuse Collectors/Bin Loaders. This full-time, on-site position offers the opportunity for early finishes, ensuring a good work-life balance. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient collection of refuse and recyclable materials from residential and commercial properties within the Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Full training will be provided to all new hires, making this an excellent entry-level opportunity for those eager to start a career in municipal services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently collect refuse and recyclable materials from designated routes.
  • Operate bin loading mechanisms and assist with manual loading as required.
  • Follow all safety protocols and municipal regulations.
  • Ensure correct separation and disposal of waste streams.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and equipment.
  • Provide excellent service to the community.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of safety procedures.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.
  • Flexibility to work in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a manual labour or outdoor role.
  • Familiarity with waste management practices.
  • Knowledge of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality area.
