Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Water Department Customer Service Representative to join our team. In this role, you will be the primary point of contact for residents regarding their water utility accounts, billing inquiries, service requests, and general questions. You will play a crucial role in maintaining positive relationships with our community by providing timely, accurate, and helpful information and solutions. This is an on-site position critical to our local operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone, email, and in-person regarding water billing, consumption, service interruptions, and account status.
  • Process payments, account adjustments, and service order requests with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints and issues, escalating complex problems to appropriate departments when necessary.
  • Educate customers on water conservation initiatives, billing cycles, and departmental policies.
  • Maintain accurate customer records and service notes in the utility's database system.
  • Collaborate with field operations and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Assist with special projects and administrative tasks as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a customer service role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and customer relationship management (CRM) software.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm demeanor under pressure.
  • Ability to empathize with customers and effectively de-escalate challenging situations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a municipal setting or utility customer service.
  • Familiarity with water utility operations and billing processes.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset.
