Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our team in York. In this vital role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality social work services to children, young people, and their families, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development. You will manage a diverse caseload, conducting assessments, developing care plans, and advocating for the best interests of those you support. This position requires a strong commitment to safeguarding and a passion for making a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of children and families, conducting comprehensive assessments of their needs and risks.
  • Develop, implement, and review care plans in collaboration with children, families, and multi-agency partners.
  • Provide direct support, advice, and guidance to children and families, empowering them to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Undertake statutory duties in line with relevant legislation and policies, including child protection investigations.
  • Attend and contribute to various meetings, including Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Children Reviews, and strategy meetings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and case notes using Barnardo's designated systems.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals, including health, education, and police services, to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
  • Participate in regular supervision, training, and professional development opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Degree in Social Work (BA, BSc, or MA in Social Work)
  • Current registration with Social Work England
  • Proven experience in statutory social work with children and families
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation and policy (e.g., Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children)
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and report writing skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals
  • Ability to manage a demanding caseload effectively and prioritize tasks under pressure
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-qualification experience in a specific area such as fostering, adoption, or youth justice
  • Experience working within a multi-agency safeguarding hub (MASH)
  • Full UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes
