Job Description
Are you passionate about history and eager to bring the past to life? The Platte Valley Historical Society invites enthusiastic individuals to apply for our Historical Reenactment & Interpretation Intern position. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in living history, historical research, and public education. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learn the nuances of historical portrayal, and engage with visitors to create memorable and educational experiences. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for those with a keen interest in history but no prior reenactment experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in historical reenactments and interpretative programs, portraying historical figures or roles.
- Conduct research to ensure historical accuracy in costumes, props, and narratives.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of historical costumes, props, and educational materials.
- Engage with and educate the public through interactive demonstrations and storytelling.
- Collaborate with staff on the planning and execution of special events and educational initiatives.
- Learn and apply historical skills and crafts relevant to various periods.
- Provide support in various museum operations as needed.
- Document research findings and assist in program evaluation.
Required Skills
- A profound interest in history and cultural heritage.

Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in History, Museum Studies, Education, Theater Arts, or a related field.
- Experience with public speaking, performance, or storytelling.
- Familiarity with the history of Nebraska or the American West.
