Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Loading Dock Assistant to join our Long Island City team. This role is crucial for maintaining the smooth flow of goods through our distribution center. You will be responsible for assisting with the loading and unloading of trucks, organizing inventory on the dock, and ensuring all safety procedures are followed. This is an early morning shift position, allowing you to finish your workday by noon, leaving your afternoons free.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload delivery trucks efficiently and safely using appropriate equipment (pallet jacks, hand trucks).
- Sort and organize incoming and outgoing packages and freight on the loading dock.
- Verify contents against shipping manifests and report discrepancies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment on the loading dock.
- Operate warehouse equipment in a safe and responsible manner (training provided).
- Assist drivers with loading and securing their cargo.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy packages (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable and punctual with excellent attendance.
- Basic communication skills.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or similar physical labor role (6+ months).
- Experience operating a pallet jack or similar material handling equipment.
- Familiarity with safety protocols in a warehouse setting.
