Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Urology Nurse Specialist to join our dynamic surgical and specialty care team. This vital role involves providing expert nursing care to patients with urological conditions, from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. The successful candidate will be instrumental in patient education, pre- and post-operative care, and assisting with various urological procedures. This position offers a unique opportunity to specialize and grow within a supportive hospital setting. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans for urology patients.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative education and support to patients undergoing urological procedures.
- Assist urologists during various clinical procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
- Manage patient follow-up appointments and ongoing care, including wound care and catheter management.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes and streamline care pathways.
- Educate patients and their families on disease management, prevention, and lifestyle modifications pertinent to urological health.
- Participate in continuous professional development and training to stay current with best practices in urology nursing.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ontario or eligibility for registration.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in surgical, medical, or urology nursing.
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced and demanding healthcare environment.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Urology Nursing (e.g., CURN, OCUBN).
- Experience in an outpatient urology clinic or specialized urology unit.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations and cultural backgrounds.
