Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Cost Estimator to join our dynamic construction team in Barrow-in-Furness. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for various construction and infrastructure projects essential to our shipbuilding and defence operations. You will analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to determine the total cost of projects, ensuring competitive and realistic budgeting. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and suppliers. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labour estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to gather necessary information and clarify project scope.
- Identify and assess potential risks and opportunities related to project costs.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current market rates for materials, labour, and equipment.
- Develop and present cost reports, budgets, and cash flow forecasts to stakeholders.
- Assist in value engineering and cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or safety.
- Participate in bid reviews and contract negotiations.
- Utilize estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Cost Estimator in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Thorough understanding of construction processes, methods, and materials.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Eligibility for sponsorship for UK work visa.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional qualification or membership (e.g., RICS, CIOB).
- Experience with large-scale industrial, defence, or infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with PRISM G2 or other enterprise-level cost management systems.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations.
