Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Development Worker to join our dynamic team in Croydon. This pivotal role involves working directly with residents and community groups to identify needs, develop sustainable solutions, and foster a vibrant, inclusive community spirit. You will be instrumental in empowering local residents, facilitating access to resources, and championing resident-led initiatives. This hybrid role requires a proactive approach to community engagement, combining office-based strategy with extensive fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage directly with residents and community groups to understand their needs, aspirations, and challenges.
- Facilitate and support the development of resident-led projects and initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local partners, stakeholders, and service providers.
- Organise and deliver community events, workshops, and forums.
- Identify funding opportunities and support community groups in developing successful grant applications.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of community development activities, reporting on progress and outcomes.
- Advocate on behalf of residents to ensure their voices are heard and needs are met by relevant services.
- Promote volunteering and civic participation within the community.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years experience in community development, social work, or a related field.
- Proven ability to engage and work effectively with diverse community groups.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
- Experience in project management and event organisation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- A genuine passion for community empowerment and social justice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant degree or professional qualification in community development, social sciences, or a related discipline.
- Experience working within a housing association or non-profit sector.
- Knowledge of funding streams and grant application processes.
- Familiarity with the Croydon community and its diverse demographics.
