Job Description

Join the Shire of Esperance as a School Crossing Officer and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of children traveling to and from school. This vital community safety role involves supervising designated school crossings, guiding pedestrians, and managing vehicle traffic during peak school hours. We are looking for reliable, community-minded individuals who are passionate about child safety. Full training will be provided to ensure you are confident and competent in all aspects of this important position. No prior experience is required, just a commitment to making a positive impact on our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise school crossings during designated peak school hours, ensuring the safe passage of students and pedestrians.
  • Control and direct vehicle traffic at school crossings to allow pedestrians to cross safely.
  • Educate children and parents on safe road crossing practices.
  • Maintain a visible and friendly presence, serving as a point of contact for community members.
  • Report any safety concerns, incidents, or unusual observations to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Adhere to all traffic regulations and safety guidelines established by the Shire.
  • Operate crossing equipment, such as stop signs, effectively and responsibly.
