Job Description
Are you looking for an opportunity to kick-start your career in environmental services with a supportive local authority? Bath and North East Somerset Council is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Trainee Waste Management Supervisor. This entry-level position offers comprehensive on-the-job training, allowing you to develop essential skills and knowledge in waste collection, recycling, and environmental management. You will learn to supervise operational teams, ensure compliance with health and safety standards, and contribute to the efficient delivery of our critical waste services. No prior experience is required, just a willingness to learn and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Shadow and assist experienced supervisors in daily waste collection and recycling operations.
- Learn to effectively manage and motivate waste operative teams, ensuring productivity and service standards are met.
- Support the planning and allocation of resources, including vehicles and personnel.
- Monitor adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations across all operations.
- Assist with route planning and optimisation to improve efficiency.
- Handle routine enquiries and resolve minor operational issues under guidance.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
- Contribute to maintaining accurate records and reporting on operational performance.
Required Skills
- Full UK driving license (essential)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively within a team and take direction

- Basic literacy and numeracy skills

- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
