Job Description

The London Fire Brigade is recruiting Trainee Firefighters for our Public Sector Academy Training program. This entry-level position requires no prior experience as full, comprehensive training will be provided. You will embark on an intensive training program at our state-of-the-art academy, learning all aspects of firefighting, emergency response, and community safety. This is a demanding but incredibly rewarding role, requiring dedication, physical fitness, and a commitment to teamwork. Upon successful completion of the training, you will join an operational watch, responding to emergencies and engaging with the public to prevent incidents across Barking and wider London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete all aspects of the rigorous academy training program.
  • Learn and apply advanced firefighting techniques, including the use of specialized equipment.
  • Develop proficiency in emergency medical response and first aid procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing physical fitness training and assessments to maintain peak condition.
  • Understand and implement fire safety prevention strategies and community engagement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively as a valued member of a diverse and highly-trained team.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Demonstrate continuous learning and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

Required Skills

  • No prior firefighting experience required – full training provided.
  • A strong commitment to public service and community safety.
  • Exceptional physical fitness, stamina, and mental resilience.
  • Ability to work effectively and calmly under pressure in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and a willingness to learn.
  • A full, valid UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing employment).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
