Job Description

Join the dedicated team at Oxfam Liverpool as a Thrift / Charity Shop Sorting Assistant. This backroom role is crucial to the smooth operation of our store, ensuring that donations are processed efficiently and prepared for sale. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team, contributing directly to Oxfam’s mission. This flexible position is ideal for individuals seeking to make a tangible difference in their local community while supporting a global cause. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience in retail or sorting is necessary. We value enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, sort, and process incoming donations (clothing, books, bric-a-brac, etc.)
  • Identify items suitable for sale, recycling, or disposal according to Oxfam guidelines
  • Prepare items for display, including steaming, cleaning, and ticketing
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe backroom environment
  • Assist with stock rotation and moving items between storage and the shop floor
  • Support the shop manager and volunteers with other duties as required

Required Skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Physical ability to lift and move boxes of donations (within health and safety guidelines)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail or warehouse environment (not essential, but a plus)
  • An interest in sustainable fashion or charitable causes
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends occasionally
