Job Description

Are you a passionate board gamer with a dream of contributing to the next big tabletop hit? Northern Dice Games is seeking an enthusiastic Tabletop Board Game Development Intern to join our on-site team in Sheffield. This internship is designed for individuals who are eager to learn the intricacies of game design, development, and production from experienced professionals. You will gain invaluable hands-on experience, supporting our lead designers and developers across various stages of the game creation process. We’re looking for a creative mind with a strong work ethic and a genuine love for the tabletop industry. No prior professional experience is needed; we provide comprehensive training and mentorship to help you grow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead designers with brainstorming new game concepts, mechanics, and themes.
  • Organize, facilitate, and participate in playtesting sessions, collecting valuable feedback.
  • Contribute to the iteration and refinement of game designs based on playtesting data.
  • Support the sourcing and evaluation of game components, artwork, and production materials.
  • Maintain and update design documentation, rulesets, and project briefs.
  • Conduct market research on current board game trends, competitor analysis, and player preferences.
  • Contribute to community engagement efforts and studio social media where appropriate.
  • Perform general administrative tasks to support the efficient operation of the development team.

Required Skills

  • An undeniable passion for tabletop board games and a broad knowledge of different genres.
  • Strong creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
  • A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn new tools and methodologies.

  • Basic understanding of game design principles (even if self-taught or hobbyist).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A portfolio demonstrating personal game design projects, prototypes, or modifications (digital or physical).
  • Familiarity with digital design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Figma) for prototyping components.
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant program (e.g., Game Design, Creative Writing, Arts, or related fields).
  • Experience with organizing events or community groups related to gaming.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana).
