Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to join our committed team in Stoke-on-Trent. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for students with a diverse range of special educational needs. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing tailored educational programs, ensuring that all students receive the support and resources necessary to make significant progress and achieve their personal best. This role requires a strong understanding of various SEN provisions, excellent communication skills, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with SEN, in collaboration with parents, carers, and other professionals.
  • Deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching to small groups and individual students with a range of special educational needs.
  • Assess, monitor, record, and report on the progress and development of students with SEN.
  • Work closely with mainstream teachers to provide advice and strategies for supporting SEN students in inclusive settings.
  • Manage and deploy teaching assistants effectively to support student learning and development.
  • Contribute to the identification and assessment of students with emerging SEN, including statutory assessment processes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with school and local authority policies.
  • Participate in continuing professional development to enhance expertise in SEN teaching and best practices.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and independence.
  • Liaise with external agencies, such as educational psychologists and health professionals, to ensure holistic support for students.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK.
  • Proven experience working as an SEN Teacher or in a similar role supporting students with special educational needs (minimum 2 years).
  • Strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting student assessments and developing IEPs.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and safeguarding children.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs (e.g., NASENCo).
  • Experience with specific learning difficulties, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), or Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or other communication aids.
  • Experience in leading or contributing to SEN policy development.
