Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Sommelier / Wine Director to elevate our wine and beverage program. This pivotal role involves curating an exceptional wine list, managing cellar operations, and guiding our guests through an unparalleled wine journey. The ideal candidate will possess deep wine knowledge, a keen palate, and a genuine desire to provide world-class service. You will be responsible for all aspects of the wine program, from selection and purchasing to inventory and staff training, ensuring it complements our esteemed culinary offerings. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and regularly update a comprehensive and diverse wine list that complements the restaurant's menu.
- Manage all aspects of wine procurement, including supplier relations, ordering, and inventory control.
- Oversee cellar management, ensuring proper storage, organisation, and rotation of all wine and beverage products.
- Provide expert wine recommendations and engaging service to guests, enhancing their dining experience.
- Conduct regular wine training for front-of-house staff to ensure high levels of product knowledge and service standards.
- Manage wine-related costs, sales, and profitability to meet established financial targets.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and licensing regulations pertaining to beverage service.
- Organise and host special wine events, tastings, and pairings.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of global wine trends, regions, and vintages.
Required Skills
- Minimum of WSET Level 3 Advanced or equivalent certification.
- At least 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or Assistant Sommelier in a high-end restaurant or luxury hotel setting.
- Extensive knowledge of international wines, spirits, and beers.
- Proven ability to curate, manage, and maintain a sophisticated wine list.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Strong organisational and inventory management abilities.
- Proficiency in POS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and ability to train and motivate staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- WSET Diploma or Court of Master Sommeliers Certified Sommelier certification.
- Experience in a Wine Director or Head Sommelier role.
- Multilingual abilities.
- Experience with menu pairing and cost analysis.
- A proven track record of increasing beverage sales and profitability.
