Job Description
CSIRO is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Research Assistant to join our dynamic team in Dubbo, NSW. This federal science role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research projects, primarily within agricultural or environmental science sectors relevant to the region. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting our scientists and researchers, assisting with data collection, laboratory work, and field activities, while adhering to strict safety and ethical guidelines. Key Responsibilities
- Assist researchers with experimental design and execution in laboratory and field settings.
- Perform routine laboratory tasks including sample preparation, analysis, and equipment maintenance.
- Collect, record, and manage research data with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Operate and maintain scientific equipment and instrumentation.
- Contribute to literature reviews and preparation of research reports and presentations.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and quality assurance procedures.
- Participate in field excursions for data collection and sample acquisition.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry).
- Demonstrated experience (12+ months) in a laboratory or field research setting, including practical skills in scientific techniques.
- Proficiency in data collection, organization, and basic analysis using software like Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all scientific procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specific analytical instruments relevant to agricultural or environmental research.
- Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities or in regional settings.
