Job Description

We are looking for dedicated and physically fit Refuse Loaders / Bin Collectors to join our vital Waste & Recycling Services team. This role is crucial in ensuring the cleanliness and well-being of our beautiful coastal communities. You will be part of a team responsible for the safe and efficient collection of household and commercial waste, often starting early in the mornings. This is a physically demanding role that requires reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to public service. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely collect household and commercial waste from designated areas.
  • Operate bin lifting equipment and assist the driver with vehicle maneuvers.
  • Walk alongside the refuse vehicle for extended periods, pushing and pulling bins.
  • Ensure all waste is collected and contained securely according to health and safety guidelines.
  • Assist with the emptying of various types of waste containers.
  • Report any issues or hazards encountered during collection rounds.
  • Maintain a high standard of customer service when interacting with the public.
  • Work effectively as part of a team to complete daily collection routes efficiently.

Required Skills

  • Reliability and punctuality for early morning starts.
  • Good physical fitness and stamina to perform manual handling tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong team player with a positive attitude.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety procedures (training provided).
  • Commitment to providing excellent public service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a similar outdoor or physically demanding role.
  • Knowledge of local Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole areas.
  • Full UK driving license (desirable but not essential).
  • Manual handling training/certification.
