Job Description
We are looking for dedicated and physically fit Refuse Loaders / Bin Collectors to join our vital Waste & Recycling Services team. This role is crucial in ensuring the cleanliness and well-being of our beautiful coastal communities. You will be part of a team responsible for the safe and efficient collection of household and commercial waste, often starting early in the mornings. This is a physically demanding role that requires reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to public service. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely collect household and commercial waste from designated areas.
- Operate bin lifting equipment and assist the driver with vehicle maneuvers.
- Walk alongside the refuse vehicle for extended periods, pushing and pulling bins.
- Ensure all waste is collected and contained securely according to health and safety guidelines.
- Assist with the emptying of various types of waste containers.
- Report any issues or hazards encountered during collection rounds.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service when interacting with the public.
- Work effectively as part of a team to complete daily collection routes efficiently.
Required Skills
- Reliability and punctuality for early morning starts.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to perform manual handling tasks.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong team player with a positive attitude.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures (training provided).
- Commitment to providing excellent public service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar outdoor or physically demanding role.
- Knowledge of local Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole areas.
- Full UK driving license (desirable but not essential).
- Manual handling training/certification.
