Job Description
Join Cargill as a Port Stevedore / Cargo Handler and become a vital part of our dynamic logistics team in Kansas City! We are seeking dedicated and hardworking individuals for immediate start to support our high-demand cargo operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient loading, unloading, and movement of various cargo, primarily focusing on bulk goods and agricultural products within our port and terminal facilities. This is a physically demanding yet rewarding position that requires attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload cargo from barges, trucks, and railcars using various equipment and manual methods.
- Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, loaders, and conveyors after proper training and certification.
- Secure cargo for transport, ensuring proper bracing and strapping.
- Perform routine inspection and basic maintenance of equipment.
- Monitor cargo levels and maintain accurate records of goods moved.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to optimize workflow and efficiency.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support terminal operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing for extended periods.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all safety regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment, exposed to various weather conditions.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record-keeping and understanding instructions.
- Willingness to learn and operate various types of equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous experience in a physical labor role, construction, or warehousing.
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation or willingness to obtain certification.
