Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and professional individuals to join our team as Parking Enforcement Officers in Ellesmere Port. This essential council role involves patrolling designated areas, enforcing parking regulations, and ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic. As a visible representative of the council, you will engage with the public, provide information, and address parking-related queries and concerns with professionalism and courtesy. Full uniform will be provided, equipping you for all aspects of the role. You will contribute directly to maintaining accessibility and order within our vibrant community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned zones on foot or by vehicle to monitor parking compliance.
  • Issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) accurately and impartially to vehicles in contravention of parking regulations.
  • Operate handheld electronic devices for recording contraventions and managing data.
  • Provide accurate information and assistance to members of the public regarding parking regulations and payment options.
  • Identify and report abandoned vehicles, defects in parking signs, lines, or other street furniture.
  • Attend court as a witness when required, providing clear and factual evidence.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of daily activities and observations.
  • Handle challenging situations and difficult conversations with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and independently, demonstrating initiative and good judgment.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic IT literacy for operating handheld devices and data entry.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging or confrontational situations.
  • A valid UK driving license is preferred due to the wide geographic area covered.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to public service and upholding regulations fairly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service, public-facing, or enforcement role.
  • Knowledge of local government parking regulations and traffic management.
  • Basic conflict resolution training.
  • NVQ in Customer Service or equivalent qualification.
