Job Description
We are seeking highly skilled and compassionate Paramedics to join our emergency response teams based in Plymouth, Devon. As a Paramedic with SWAST, you will be on the frontline of emergency medical care, responding to a wide range of incidents from critical trauma to medical emergencies. You will be responsible for assessing patients, providing immediate and life-saving treatment, and safely transporting them to the appropriate medical facilities. This role requires exceptional clinical judgment, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to providing patient-centered care. You will be an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with colleagues, other emergency services, and healthcare professionals to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and safely to emergency calls and incidents across the Plymouth area.
- Assess patients effectively and make rapid, accurate clinical decisions.
- Provide advanced pre-hospital medical care, including resuscitation, medication administration, and trauma management.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely and efficiently under blue light conditions.
- Liaise with other emergency services, healthcare professionals, and patient families.
- Accurately document patient care, observations, and treatments in accordance with Trust policies.
- Maintain clinical competency through continuous professional development and training.
- Ensure all equipment is checked, maintained, and ready for use.
- Adhere to all SWAST policies, procedures, and professional guidelines.
- Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Paramedic.
- Full UK driving license with C1 category and no more than 3 penalty points.
- Demonstrable experience in pre-hospital emergency care.
- Proficient in advanced life support techniques and emergency interventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to patient safety and quality care.
- Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) or equivalent certification.
- Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) or equivalent certification.
- Experience with a NHS Ambulance Service.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in emergency medicine.
