Job Description
Mercy Medical Center – Cedar Rapids is seeking a skilled and dedicated Operating Room / Theatre Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. As an OR Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing expert perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout their surgical journey. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures, including setting up sterile fields, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist surgeons and other medical staff during operations, anticipating needs and ensuring a smooth, efficient workflow.
- Monitor patient's vital signs and condition throughout surgery, reporting any changes immediately to the surgical team.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records and documentation, adhering to all regulatory and facility standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to all sterile techniques and infection control policies and procedures.
- Provide comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative care, including patient assessment, education, and support.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other nurses, to optimize patient care outcomes.
- Manage and troubleshoot surgical equipment as needed, ensuring its proper function and safety.
- Participate in continuous professional development, training, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance nursing practice.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing (or eligibility for licensure in Iowa).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Operating Room Nurse.
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform effectively and maintain composure in a fast-paced, high-stress surgical environment.
- Commitment to patient safety, privacy, and the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing (CNOR).
- Experience with diverse surgical specialties (e.g., cardiac, orthopedic, neurosurgery).
- Previous experience working in a Magnet-recognized facility or similar high-performance environment.
