Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Part-time Nursery Hand to join our team at Eden Gardens in Newcastle. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a passion for plants, and are eager to learn. You will be an integral part of our team, contributing to the daily care and maintenance of our diverse plant stock and assisting customers with their gardening needs. No prior experience is required as full training will be provided; we value a positive attitude and a willingness to get hands-on.

Key Responsibilities

  • Watering and fertilizing plants according to schedules and specific needs.
  • Potting and re-potting plants, including preparing soil mixes.
  • Pruning, weeding, and pest management to ensure plant health.
  • Assisting with the merchandising and display of plants and products.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness within the nursery area.
  • Providing friendly and helpful assistance to customers, directing them to products or offering basic advice.
  • Unloading and organizing plant deliveries.
  • Operating basic nursery equipment safely (training provided where necessary).

Required Skills

  • A strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical fitness to handle repetitive tasks, lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Enthusiasm for learning about plants and horticulture.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A genuine passion for plants, gardening, or outdoor environments.
  • Previous experience in a customer service role.
  • Basic knowledge of plant care or identification (hobbyist experience welcome).
