Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Microwave Technician to join our regional network operations team in Bunbury, Western Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of microwave radio systems used in our extensive telecommunications network. You will ensure optimal performance and reliability of critical infrastructure, playing a vital part in keeping communities connected. This is an on-site position requiring field work and a strong commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, and commission microwave radio systems and associated equipment.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on microwave transmission links.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to microwave radio systems, including signal loss, interference, and hardware failures.
  • Conduct routine inspections and site audits to ensure compliance with technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and system configurations.
  • Collaborate with network engineers and other technicians to optimize network performance.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for emergency response and fault resolution outside of regular hours.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Microwave Technician or similar role in the telecommunications industry.
  • Solid understanding of microwave radio principles, theory, and practical applications.
  • Proficiency in using test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, power meters, and antenna alignment tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various site locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant vocational qualification or diploma in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific vendor equipment (e.g., Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei microwave systems).
  • Knowledge of IP networking concepts and protocols.
  • Working at Heights and RF Awareness certifications.
