Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer with a specialization in HVAC systems to join our dynamic team in Pittsburgh, PA. This role is essential for designing, analyzing, and implementing efficient and sustainable heating, ventilation, and air conditioning solutions for a diverse range of building projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring optimal indoor environmental quality and energy performance for our clients. Key Responsibilities
- Design, calculate, and specify HVAC systems (including air distribution, hydronic systems, ventilation, and controls) for commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
- Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing using industry-standard software.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Collaborate with architects, clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to integrate HVAC systems effectively into overall building designs.
- Conduct site visits during design, construction, and commissioning phases to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
- Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, and field change requests.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant local, state, and national building codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, IMC, IECC).
- Participate in client meetings and presentations to discuss project progress and technical solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in HVAC system design for buildings.
- Proficiency in HVAC design software such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP, HAP (Hourly Analysis Program), Trane TRACE 700, or similar.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles.
- In-depth knowledge of ASHRAE standards and other relevant building codes (e.g., IMC, IECC).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- LEED Accredited Professional (AP) certification.
- Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and controls integration.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy conservation measures.
- Experience in commissioning or retro-commissioning HVAC systems.
