Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Forklift Operator to join our dynamic team in Basingstoke. This role involves working outdoors in our busy lumber yard, where you will be responsible for safely and efficiently moving, loading, and unloading a variety of building materials, primarily timber products. Key Responsibilities
- Operate counterbalance forklift trucks safely and efficiently within the lumber yard.
- Load and unload delivery vehicles with building materials, ensuring accuracy and careful handling.
- Store materials in designated areas, maintaining an organised and accessible yard layout.
- Assist with regular inventory checks and ensure stock rotation.
- Carry out daily pre-start checks on the forklift and report any defects immediately.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Assist customers and colleagues with material selection and loading when required.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment within the yard.
Required Skills
- Valid and current counterbalance forklift license (e.g., ITSSAR, RTITB accredited).
- Proven experience operating a forklift in an outdoor, fast-paced environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and manual handling as needed.
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures related to forklift operation and yard work.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to accurately read delivery notes and pick lists.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong team player.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a timber yard, builders' merchant, or similar industry.
- Knowledge of various timber products and building materials.
- Experience with other material handling equipment.
- A valid UK driving license.
