Job Description
Northern Timepiece Restoration is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Horologist / Master Watchmaker to join our dedicated team in Thunder Bay, Ontario. This is a unique opportunity for a talented professional with expertise in the intricate mechanics of high-grade watches. The successful candidate will be responsible for the full spectrum of watchmaking services, from routine maintenance and complex repairs to full restorations of vintage and contemporary luxury timepieces. You will work with a diverse range of brands, ensuring each watch functions perfectly and maintains its aesthetic integrity. Your precision, attention to detail, and deep understanding of horological principles will be crucial in delivering the exceptional quality our clients expect. This is an on-site position located in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and service a wide range of mechanical and automatic watches, including complex complications.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, oiling, and regulation of movements.
- Conduct full movement overhauls, including disassembly, inspection, cleaning, part replacement, assembly, and testing.
- Undertake case and bracelet refurbishment, polishing, and restoration.
- Accurately estimate repair costs and timelines for client approvals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Adhere to best practices and brand-specific service guidelines.
- Utilize specialized tools and equipment for precision work.
- Keep detailed records of all work performed.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in the repair and restoration of high-end mechanical and automatic watches.
- In-depth knowledge of various watch movements and complications.
- Exceptional fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Proficiency with watchmaking tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality craftsmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification from a recognized horological institute (e.g., WOSTEP, SAWTA, AWCI).
- Experience working with specific luxury watch brands (e.g., Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet).
- Prior experience in a high-volume or luxury watch service center.
- Ability to perform advanced restoration techniques for vintage timepieces.
- Fluency in multiple languages is a plus, though not required.
