Job Description
Are you passionate about geography, spatial data, and eager to kick-start your career in GIS? United Utilities is offering an exciting internship opportunity for a Geography & GIS Mapping Intern. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with little to no prior professional experience in GIS, providing comprehensive training and hands-on experience with cutting-edge mapping technologies. You will support our operational and planning teams by contributing to the creation, maintenance, and analysis of critical geographic information systems data, playing a vital role in our infrastructure management and environmental initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, input, and maintenance of geographic data within our GIS databases.
- Learn and apply GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS) for mapping and spatial analysis tasks.
- Support the creation of high-quality maps, reports, and data visualizations for various projects.
- Conduct basic spatial analysis to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in geographic data.
- Collaborate with experienced GIS professionals and other departments on interdisciplinary projects.
- Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with internal standards.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance GIS skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of geographic principles and spatial concepts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
