Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Gemologist / Diamond Grader to join our esteemed team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to apply their expertise in a beautiful, historic setting, with the added benefit of international sponsorship for eligible candidates. The successful applicant will be responsible for accurately assessing, grading, and identifying diamonds and other gemstones, ensuring the highest standards of quality and authenticity for our precious inventory. You will play a crucial role in maintaining Goldsmiths’ reputation for excellence and trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately grade and evaluate loose and mounted diamonds according to the 4 Cs (Carat, Cut, Colour, Clarity) using industry-standard techniques and equipment.
  • Identify and grade various gemstones, including their origin, treatments, and authenticity.
  • Perform detailed inspections of jewellery items to assess quality, craftsmanship, and condition.
  • Maintain precise records of all grading and evaluation activities.
  • Collaborate with sales and procurement teams to ensure product knowledge and quality standards are met.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and gemological advancements.
  • Adhere to strict safety and security protocols for handling high-value items.
  • Provide expert advice and insights on gemological matters to colleagues as needed.

Required Skills

  • Accredited Gemology qualification (e.g., GIA Graduate Gemologist, FGA Diploma).
  • Proven expertise in diamond grading (4 Cs) and identification of various gemstones.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with gemological instruments (microscopes, spectroscopes, refractometers, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a secure, high-value environment.
  • A strong ethical compass and commitment to accuracy and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in a similar role within the luxury jewellery or gemological industry.
  • Experience with advanced gem testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with international gemological standards and practices.
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus, especially given the international sponsorship aspect.
  • Previous experience working in a retail environment with high-value items.
