Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Fleet Operations Manager to oversee our extensive fleet operations based out of Markham, Ontario. This critical role involves managing daily dispatch, vehicle maintenance, driver performance, and ensuring compliance with all transportation regulations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a strong operational background, capable of optimizing fleet utilization, enhancing safety standards, and leading a dedicated team. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of a diverse fleet, ensuring efficiency and adherence to schedules.
- Manage and lead a team of drivers, dispatchers, and maintenance staff, including scheduling, performance reviews, and training.
- Implement and enforce company safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal transportation regulations.
- Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs, minimizing downtime and optimizing fleet readiness.
- Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle performance, and operational costs to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
- Utilize fleet management software to track assets, analyze data, and generate performance reports.
- Develop and manage operational budgets, ensuring cost-effective fleet management.
- Respond to and investigate incidents, accidents, or breakdowns, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Maintain strong relationships with suppliers, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
- Contribute to the strategic planning for fleet expansion and technology adoption.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in fleet management or logistics operations.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations (e.g., hours of service, vehicle maintenance, hazardous materials).
- Proficiency with fleet management software and GPS tracking systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Transportation Manager, P.Log).
- Experience with cross-border logistics (Canada-US).
- Knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance processes.
- Experience with budget management and cost control in a fleet context.
