Job Description
We are seeking a talented and dedicated Fire Safety Engineer to join our growing team in Wolverhampton. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring the highest standards of fire safety design and compliance. You will play a crucial role in developing innovative and practical fire safety solutions for complex buildings and infrastructure projects, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe and sustainable environments. This role requires a strong understanding of UK fire safety legislation and a passion for engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake fire safety design and engineering for a wide range of projects, including commercial, residential, and industrial buildings.
- Conduct comprehensive fire risk assessments and develop robust fire safety strategies in line with relevant codes and standards.
- Prepare detailed fire safety reports, calculations, and drawings for submission to approving authorities.
- Collaborate effectively with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, and clients to integrate fire safety solutions into overall project designs.
- Provide expert advice on fire safety legislation, British Standards, and best practice guidance.
- Participate in site visits, inspections, and commissioning activities to ensure design implementation and compliance.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team's technical knowledge and capabilities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in fire safety engineering, preferably within a consultancy environment.
- Thorough knowledge of UK fire safety legislation, including Building Regulations Approved Document B, BS 9999, and relevant fire safety guides.
- Proficiency in fire modelling software (e.g., FDS, PyroSim) and evacuation modelling software (e.g., Pathfinder) is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrable experience in managing project deliverables and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Fire Safety Engineering or a related field.
- Working towards or achieved Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution (e.g., IFE, IMechE, CIBSE).
- Experience with international fire safety codes and standards.
- Membership in a professional fire engineering body.
