Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Farm Operations Lead to oversee and optimize large-scale agricultural operations in the Adelaide region. This critical role requires a hands-on leader capable of managing all facets of farm production, from planting and cultivation to harvest and post-harvest activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, implementing best practices, managing resources effectively, and fostering a high-performance team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage daily large-scale farm operations, including cropping, livestock, or specialized horticulture, ensuring alignment with production targets and quality standards.
- Develop and implement operational plans, schedules, and budgets, monitoring performance against KPIs.
- Oversee machinery and equipment maintenance, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.
- Manage and mentor a team of farm workers, fostering a culture of safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
- Implement and adhere to all relevant WHS, environmental, and industry compliance standards.
- Utilize agricultural technology and data analytics to enhance decision-making and improve yields.
- Collaborate with agronomists, consultants, and other stakeholders to integrate best practices and innovative solutions.
- Report on operational performance, challenges, and opportunities to senior management.
- Manage inventory of inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and chemicals.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in large-scale farm operations management.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing and developing farm teams.
- Strong knowledge of modern agricultural practices, crop cycles, and/or livestock management.
- Proficiency in farm machinery operation and basic maintenance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Agricultural Science, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Experience with precision agriculture technologies and farm management software.
- Current first aid certification.
- Chemical accreditation (e.g., ACUP).
